Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It is a device that emits light, electromagnetic radiation, through a process called stimulated emission. The laser light is very pure in color, can be extremely intense and can be directed with great accuracy. It is used in many modern technological devices including CD players, laser printers and bar code readers. In manufacturing lasers are used for cutting, bending and welding metal and other materials and for marking. It is also used by the military for target designation, range-finding and illumination. In the field of medicine, lasers are also greatly used for surgery, diagnostics and therapeutic applications.
