Västerås is a city in central Sweden, located on the mouth of Lake Mälaren in the province Västmanland. The city is the capital of Västmanland County and a road and railroad hub; it is also the center of the Swedish electrical industry and manufactures appliances, iron and steel, generators, motors, glass, locomotives and lumber products. Västerås is one of Sweden’s and Northern Europe’s oldest cities.
Tourists are attracted to some of the Västerås historical sites such as the Rudbeckianska Gymnasiet, the oldest gymnasium in Sweden. The Gothic cathedral built in 1271 which houses the tomb of Eric XIV, king of Sweden and the Djakneberget, a park containing statues of historical personages.
