Mesa

Mesa or a plateau is a landform like of a tabletop that is uplifted from surface by tectonic activity. These flat-topped mountains and hills are common in arid regions such as deserts. Other mesas are actually full mountains which after extensive erosion and weathering, cut out the mountainsides into steep slopes. The characteristic formation of a mesa also depends on the type of rock that composes it. Mesa is the Spanish word for table. This term is widely used southwestern United States where plenty of such landform can be seen. The highest mesa or plateau above sea level is the Tibetan Plateau which earned its moniker, the Roof of the World. Whereas the largest mesa in the world is the Grand Mesa in Western Colorado, USA.

Fabergé Egg

Fabergé Eggs are a famous lot of ornate eggs made of gold and precious stones by Carl Fabergé and his team of skillful goldsmiths. From 1885 and 1917, they have produced over sixty-nine eggs. Fifty of which are known as the Imperial Fabergé eggs of the Russian Czars Alexander III and his son Nicholas II. Seven of which were commissioned by the Kelch family.

The first egg was the Czar’s Easter gift to his wife, Maria Fyodorovna. Once opened, the egg reveals a surprise inside. The royal household was so charmed that Fabergé was commissioned to produce the egg every year thereafter.

At presesent, only sixty-one Fabergé eggs remains and are stored in museums in Russia.

Fudge

Fudge was what came out after a batch of caramels became “fudged” or miscued in the kitchen. The sweet confection is made from sugar, butter, milk, and cocoa that are then heated and beaten into creamy consistency. The popular dessert is made into cakes and brownies. Though fudge is a type of fondant, it can be heated to make a viscous syrup called hot fudge sauce and made into ice cream toppings. There are other versions of the fudge; others are with nuts. Fudge originated in the US but it is popular in some parts of Europe, as well.

Lentil

Lentil is a legume (a plant that bears pods as fruits) that commonly thrives in South Western Asia and in temperate regions. It has small flowers with white, blue, and lilac petals. It can grow up to 45 cm (18 in) tall and has pinnate leaves. The pod contains edible lens-shaped seeds (also called lentils) in brown, orange, yellow, and green varieties.

Lentils are rich in protein and may be used as meat substitute when combined with nuts, seeds, or grains. One of the oldest cultivated crops, Lentils were eaten by ancient Greeks, Babylonians, Egyptians, and Romans.

In taxonomy, lentil belongs to the family Fabaceae (Leguminosae), classified as Lens culinaris.

confetti

confetti.jpgA confetti is an array of small pieces of paper or metallic material which is usually thrown at celebrations. It is made in a variety of colors and it even has evolved in imaginative shapes. The simplest kind of confetti is made out of shimply shredded paper. Confetti products are readily available at craft and party stores. Confetti are often added in piñatas, party poppers and balloons. Confetti has already become a symbol of festivities.

pearl.jpgA pearl is hard, lustrous, roundish object produced within the soft tissue of a living shelled mollusk and is valued as a gem. It consist almost entirely of nacre, which is the substance forming the inner layers of the mollusk shells. Nacre or more known as mother of pearl is primarily made up of aragonite crystals. Pearls is a result of irritants invading the body of a mollusk and becomes trapped within the mollusk’s mantle folds. Both marine and freshwater mollusks can produce pearls but not all are considered to be gems, the most valuable varieties originate in the pearl oyster of the Persian Gulf.

Highly prized pearls are spherical, ideally they should be perfectly round and smooth. They also come in variety of colors but the most valuable ones are in shades of white, black, rose and cream. Pearls are cultivated and harvested primarily for jewelry use however pearls have also been used in cosmetics, medicines, production of lavish clothes and paint formulations.

Bagel

bagel.jpgA bagel is a bread product that is ring-shaped roll that has a slightly chewy texture. It is traditionally made of yeasted wheat dough which is first boiled in water and then baked. The interior is dense and doughy with a browned and sometimes crisp outside. Bagels are usually sprinkled with seeds baked onto the outer crust while some even have salt placed on the surface of the bagel. Bagels are popular among cities with large Jewish populations and are known in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The origin of bagels are unknown yet it is generally accepted that bagels originated somewhere in Europe, some people believe that it came from Germany other evidences point out Kraków. In North America, there are two most prominent styles of traditional bagel, they are the Montreal-style bagel and the New York-style bagel. Other seasonings like garlic, onion, caraway and salt can be added to bagels beside the plain bagel and the standard poppy or sesame seeds.

Salsa

Salsa music, is a popular genre that originates from the Latin American music and is known among Latinos. Salsa is diverse and incorporates multiple styles and variations; the term can even be used to describe many form of popular Cuban-derived music such as mambo or chachacha. Since its emergence in the mid-1960’s, this type of music genre has spread popularity worldwide attracting other cultures of different countries like Japan and Sweden.

Salsa’s structure is made up of a songlike first section followed by a longer second section featuring call and response vocals and instrumental improvisations over a repeated chordal pattern. It traditionally follows a 4/4 time signature.

Green tea

greentea.jpgGreen tea is a kind of tea that is made solely with the leaves of Camellia sinensis, that is placed on minimal oxidation during processing. This kind of tea originates from China and has been associated with different cultures and countries in Asia. Most recently, Green tea’s popularity has reached the Western countries where black tea is mostly consumed. Over the past decades this type of tea has been subjected to have many medical and scientific benefits, suggesting that regular green tea drinkers are less prone to heart disease and certain cancers. The green tea has also been associated and useful for weight loss management. There are different types of green teas. Zhejiang, a province in china is the home of the most famous type of green tea, Xi Hu Longjing and many other high-quality green teas.

scarf

scarf.jpgA scarf is a piece of fabric worn on or near the head or the neck for concealment, warmth, fashion and decoration or for religious purposes. In some countries, the manufacturing of knitting garments such as scarves still remains an important trade. Scarves have different types and uses around the world. In countries with cold climates, a thick knitted scarf, often made out of wool, is tied around the neck to keep the wearer warm. In areas with dry and dusty climates or environments where there are many airborne contaminants, a thin headscarf is worn over or wrapped around the hair to keep the hair clean. Pilots of early aircraft used silk scarves in order to keep oily smoke from the exhaust out of their mouths while flying. Scarves serves as identification in some uniforms, like in United Kingdom, academic scarves are worn with distinct combinations of stripped colours to identify their individual university and college or in scouting, members wear scarves as part of their uniform with various colors and logos to represent their scout group. Overtime, the wearing of scarves became not only a fashion accessory but a fashion statement as well.
