Digital Audio Player

Digital Audio Player or popularly called as MP3 has become more than a consumer gadget but also an urban lifestyle. It plays, organizes, and stores music file in WAV file, mp3, or others. Conveniently, with an MP3, you can take your favorite music anywhere with you and listen to it with an earphones or its built-in speakers. Top of the line audio players are called portable media players as it can support video and image files. Some can even store non-media files like from word processors. Audio waves are transfigured into binary number serial codes so it can be stored in digital format. Such process is called digital sampling. Now a days, almost each consumer electronic brand has its own line of digital audio players. One of the most popular is the Apple iPod.

Traffic Light

Traffic light was designed in such a way that people who are colorblind can still see the signals and promote street safety. Every pedestrian crossings and intersections have a stop light with its universal colors of red-yellow-green. The red light has traces of orange on its hue. At the same time, green has traces of blue. This color pattern reinforces people who are color blind with the red and green. Some traffic lights have special provisions for people with such - the signals come in specially-shaped lights to aid color blind pedestrians.

Lunar Rover

Lunar Rover is popularly known for its moniker, the moon buggy. It was used to traverse the surface of the moon during the three Apollo missions. The lunar rover has an aluminum alloy frame, about 10 feet (3 meters) long, with a hinged chassis for easy transportation. Like the regular car, the lunar rover has four wheels, two seats with an armrest and set of seatbelts, footrests, brakes, and navigation handles. Power is derived from rechargeable electric battery. The astronaut can gaze at the control and display screen to know vital information (speed, temperature, power) about the lunar rover. The television camera situated at the front can only be accessed by Mission control.

induction cooker

inductioncooker.jpgAn induction cooker is a revolutionary kitchen utility that uses induction heating for cooking. A conducting pot is placed above an induction coil for the heating process to start. Although this type of cooktop does not work with non-conductive cookware such as glass and ceramic. It heats faster and more energy-efficient than traditional cooktops are some of the benefits of induction cookers. Also, the pot is heated directly to the desired temperature rather than heating the stovetop, making it much safer and lessen the possibility of injury. Since heat comes from an electric current induced by an electric coil, the range can detect when a cookware is removed or its contents boil out by monitoring the voltage drop brought by the resistance to the current. Thus creating additional functions such as automatic switching off of the cooker once cookware is removed.

Penicillin

Penicillin is an antibiotics made out of Beta-lactam used in the treatment of bacterial infection brought by susceptible, usually Gram-positive organisms. It is a group of antibiotics that is derived from the fungus Penicillium, created by using partially artificial processes. The action of natural penicillin was observed by British bacteriologist Sir Alexander Fleming in 1928 but it was only ten years after before penicillin was studied and concentrated by German-British biochemist Ernst Chain, Australian pathologist Sir Howard Florey and by other scientists.

Penicillin works by killing both bacteria and inhibiting their growth, it does not kill resting organisms but those that continuesly growing and reproducing. This antibiotic is effective against a wide range of disease-bearing microorganisms including pneumococci, clostridium that cause tetanus, streptococci and many others. It is used to treat deadly diseases such as endocarditis, septicemia, scarlet fever and gonorrhea.

Lawn_mower.jpgA lawn mower is a machine that is used to cut grass or lawn at an even length with the use of one or more rotating blades installed in the machine. They vary in size, power source and mode of operation. Walk-behind mowers are designed to be pushed by the operator and is typically run by electricity or gasoline; while riding mowers are powered by an engine using gasoline and are ridden and steered by the operator. The former is used for small residential gardens while the latter is suited for large lawns such as municipal parks and golf courses. The lawn mower was invented by English engineer Edwin Beard Budding in the year 1827.

It is a send and forward method of writing,sending, receiving and saving messages over electronic communication systems. It came to widespread use in the 1990s and has become a major development in business and personal communications. Spam is referred to as the sending of bulk unsolicited, usually commercial e-mail messages, by businesses that is considered to be an abuse of this technology.

Internet

The Internet is a computer based global information system that interchanges data by packet switching, using the standardized Internet Protocol Suite. It is made up of many interconnected computer networks; each network may link thousands of computers enabling them to share data, information and processing power. The “networks of networks” is linked by copper wires, fiber-optic cables, wireless connections and other technologies.

The Internet made the world smaller because it provided the possibility for people all over the world to communicate effectively, faster and inexpensively. With the Internet carrying various information resources and services, such as file transfer, online chat, electronic email, online gaming, documents and texts with other resources of the World Wide Web, it has brought new opportunities to government, business and education.

Barbie

Barbie is the world’s all time best-selling fashion doll since it was launched in 1959. Mattel, Inc. are the makers of Barbie and receives major of the company’s revenue from the doll. Barbie was the brainchild of American businesswoman, Ruth Handler and it’s design was inspired by a German doll called Bild Lilli. Barbie has been an important part of the toy fashion doll market for almost fifty years and has been a subject of numerous controversies and lawsuits, often involving parody or copy of the doll and its lifestyle. Recently, the doll has faced tremendous competition from the Bratz range of dolls. Barbie was one of the first toys to extensively market itself on television advertising, which has been copied widely by other toys. Over a billion barbies have been sold worldwide with Mattel claiming that three Barbies are sold every second. The doll has become a cultural icon and has been given honors that are rare in the toy world. The doll’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts.

Apple IPhone

Apple’s Iphone is a multimedia smartphone with a flush multi-touch screen and a minimal hardware interface that has the capability to connect to the internet. This smartphone, doesn’t have a physical keyboard instead a virtual keyboard is rendered on the touch screen. It offers internet services including email, web browsing and local Wi-Fi connectivity aside from the regular functions of camera phones, mobile phones and portable media player. The batteries of the Iphone is built-in rechargeable but not user-replaceable. The phone offers either a 4 GB or 8 GB storage.

It was released to the US Market on June 29,2007 and is in the process of being introduced worldwide. The Iphone was named Time Magazine’s invention of the year in 2007. Just last July 11, 2008 the Iphone 3G was released, the newest version of the Iphone supports faster 3G data speeds and Assisted GPS.
