Rwanda is a republic in east central Africa. A small landlocked country that is bounded by Uganda on the north, Tanzania on the east, Burundi on the south and Lake Kivu and Democratic Republic of the Congo on the west . Kigali is the country’s largest and capital city. Rwanda’s land area covers about 26,338 sq km and is home to approximately 10.1 million people. This small republic holds the title “Land of a Thousand Hills” because of it’s fertile and hilly terrain. Rwanda became the first country in history to elect a majority female national legislature in 2008.
The country has three main seasons: a short dry season, a heavy rainy season and another dry period towards the end of the year. The republic is divided into five provinces and subdivided into thirty districts.
